Connecting minds, creating future

Colours of Community is part of Becoming A Woman CIC, a Christian organisation empowering women and building strong, connected communities, especially among ethnic minority groups. While our faith inspires all we do, Colours of Community is for everyone, regardless of your background, beliefs, or where you came from. We believe community is God’s design, and everyone deserves a place to belong.

The Colours of Community Family Picnic in the park is not just a picnic; it’s a celebration of the multiculturalism within our community. It aims to celebrate and unite members of ethnic minority groups within our community, combating loneliness and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone. Bringing together members of ethnic minority groups is not just an act of inclusivity but a strategic investment in the community’s strength, resilience, and harmony. It aligns with the equality, justice, and shared values that make a community vibrant and cohesive. Recognising and celebrating our differences strengthens the bonds that unite us, creating a more inclusive and harmonious community.

Severals Sport Pavillon

Under the open skies of Severals Sports Pavillion, Newmarket, families from every corner of our community are invited to enjoy the beauty of our differences, finding common ground despite our differences. This will be an opportunity for people to share their experiences and cultures, and to build bridges of understanding and friendship. It is a chance to come together and show our appreciation for the diversity of our community.

Why it Matters

According to the Office for National Statistics ; In the year ending June 2023, the top five non-EU nationalities for immigration flows into the
UK were: Indian (253,000), Nigerian (141,000), Chinese (89,000), Pakistani (55,000) and Ukrainian (35,000).

A large number of ethnic minority groups have moved into the country, particularly in the Newmarket, Suffolk area. Moving to a new country can leave you feeling lonely and unfamiliar. Ultimately, this could have negative effects on a person’s physical and mental health. This would eventually lead to social isolation. It is important to have a network of people to turn to for support and understanding. Connecting with people from the local community can help to overcome these feelings of loneliness and unfamiliarity.
